DE SELINCOURT, E.. English poets and the national ideal.

London. Oxford university press, 1915. First edition.
8vo. [1], 119pp, [1]. Original publisher's red cloth, lettered in guilt to spine. Some fading to spine, discolouration to endpapers. With inked inscription to FFEP: 'To Stopford A. Brooke, with Grateful memories of Four Winds. from the writer. Sept 1915.'
Stopford Brooke's copy of Ernest De Selincourt's (1870-1943) English Poets and the National Ideal, a collection of four lectures given at the university of Birmingham in the winter of 1914. Alongside being professor of English at the university of Birmingham, De Selincourt received acclaim as an editor of the Romantics, in particular of Dorothy Wordsworth's journals. The 'Four Winds' referenced in the inscription was the residence of Stopford Brooke; presumably, De Selincourt had recently visited.
