The first edition of a selection of twenty-seven extracts from theologian John Heylyn's (1684/85-1759) Theological Lectures at Westminster Abbey with an Interpretation of the Four Gospels (1749).

The publisher's advertisement states: 'This being a large Book, and not to be purchased by every one, it was thought not improper to publish, in a small Volume, some of the most Practical Discourses, which cannot fail to meet with a good Reception from all who wish for the Improvement of True Religion in themselves and others. It is to be observed, that the Texts quoted, are from the Doctor's Interpretation, which sometimes differs a little from our Translation.'
