With an additional manuscript title with adhered engraved classical motifs, facing an ink manuscript dedication 'To George Rock Hitchcock as a Token of remembrance from his loving Brother Thomas Cooke Hitchcock', all in the same neat hand, the dedication with adhered engraved border and decorations, each decoration with contemporary ink signature 'Geo Hitchcock', a further 4pp. ink manuscript verse at rear, in a different hand, rear pastedown with pencil sketch of a seated traveller roughly titled 'Tom Hitchcock', above an ink manuscript poem, some offsetting from engravings, additional title blank verso with later ink annotation 'T.C.H. born 1821, died 1841'.
A charming early Victorian volume of manuscript doggerel, evidently lovingly produced as a token of affection by a young gentleman for his brother shortly before his own death.
George (c. 1822-1874) and Thomas Hitchcock's (1821-1841) father was John Hitchcock, Governor of Clonmel Asylum. George, who from 1839 was an employee of the Valuation Office, was the paternal grandfather of renowned Irish-born film director and actor Reginald Ingram Montgomery Hitchcock (1892-1950), better known by his pseudonym Rex Ingram.
